1.What sound files are available?

Stenospeed.com has both live and dictated material, at speeds
from 40 to 230 words per minute.

2. What is the cost of using the files?

The files are free of charge.

3. Do I need a very fast modem?

The soundfiles are in a streaming audio format. When you
click to hear the dictation, choose "open from this location."
A temporary file will be sent to your RealPlayer, which allows
the dictation to start. This process could take from a few
seconds to three minutes, depending on the speed of your
Internet connection.

4. How do I know what files to practice?

Practice files that will match your objectives in terms of speed
and subject matter. You can mix and match the files to
attain your goals. If something is too fast or too difficult, you
can practice something slower until you attain the necessary speed.
If you wish to practice something that we don't have, drop us an
e-mail at support@stenospeed.com and we'll see if we can find it for you.

5. What if I have a problem?

Support is available via e-mail at support@stenospeed.com.
Support for RealPlayer can be found at www.real.com .

6. What's the best way to use the files?

Different people will use the files in different ways. It
is a good idea to work with headphones to minimize
distraction. Foot pedals are available commercially if you wish to
pause and rewind. You can look at the text files ahead of
time for any difficult terminology or wait until you are
done to check for errors.

7. How can I type along with the audio?
Click on the soundfile link and click on your speed.
Then click to hear the dictation. When the RealPlayer starts
to play, pause the audio (control + P) and minimize RealPlayer.
Then open your word processing program. Restore the RealPlayer
and play (control + P). Type along with the audio.

8. How can I use my CAT system with the audio?

Hook up your steno machine to your computer as though
you were doing realtime. Log on to your classroom and
click on an audio link. When the RealPlayer comes on,
pause the audio and minimize the window. Go into your CAT
system and open a new realtime file. Maximize RealPlayer and
play (control + P) the audio file. Write while you are listening.

9. Can I download or buy the files?

At the present time, the customized files are not available
for download or purchase. Some of our files, however, are
from commercial sources and are available on cassette or
CD Rom. Check the Classified Ad section for availability.
